My thoughts on why the nation divided over men in women’s sports??
The issue of transgenders in competitive sports, particularly transgender women and girls in women's sports, has been a controversial topic in the United States over the past few years. If you could find a central point to this issue it would be the case of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). The debate often centers around whether individuals who are assigned male at birth but identify as female can fairly compete in women’s sports, given that they retain certain physical advantages associated with male biology, such as muscle strength and physicality.
A notable incident that sparked national attention occurred in September 2022, when a collegiate volleyball player Payton McNabb suffered a severe brain injury after being struck in the face by a spike from a transgender male player. This injury resulted in neurological impairments, including a concussion, vision issues, and partial paralysis, ultimately ending her volleyball career. This incident is one of several that have raised concerns about safety and fairness in women's sports.
But even before McNabb's case, the transgender athlete Lia Thomas gained media attention in February 2022 when CNN labeled them "the face of the debate on transgender women in sports." Thomas made history as the first openly transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I national championship, triumphing in the women’s 500-yard freestyle event.
Another case involving this issue of gender eligibility continues to unfold in the world of international sports. In 2023, boxers Imane Khelif from Algeria and Lin Yu-ting from Taiwan were disqualified from the International Boxing Association (IBA) world championships for not meeting unspecified gender eligibility requirements. However, both athletes were later cleared to compete in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, further intensifying discussions around gender and fairness in women's sports.
Now in my mind once the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES signs an executive order it’s a done deal and we wipe our hands forever from this mess. But I guess I was too naive to believe that. In early February 2025, President Donald Trump, who was surrounded by young girls and women athletes, signed an executive order intended to ban transgender athletes from participating in girls' and women's sports, which was followed by the NCAA announcing a policy change limiting competition in women's sports to athletes assigned female at birth. But the issue of transgender athletes, particularly transgender women, competing in women's sports remains a contentious and ongoing concern even regarding the order that the President signed, with policies and regulations varying across different sports organizations and jurisdictions.
The States that have either banned or restricted transgenders from playing in women’s sports:
- Alabama
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- Alaska
- Florida
- Georgia
- Idaho
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- Missouri
- Montana
- New Hampshire
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- Oklahoma
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
- Texas
- Utah
- Virginia
- West Virginia
- Wyoming
Maine and its governor, Janet Mills, have been pretty outspoken about this issue. On February 21, there was a bit of a tense moment between her and Pres. Trump. He called her out for not following his order, saying, "You better comply, or else you’re not going to get any federal funding." To that, the governor shot back, "See you in court!" The president quickly turned and said, "Good to see you in court. I look forward to that; it should be a real easy one. Enjoy your life after governor because I don’t think you’ll be elected again in politics."
In the Bible, at the start of creation, God made Adam first and then created Eve from one of Adam’s ribs. Another example of the Bible mentioning two genders is when Jesus talks to the Pharisees and the Disciples about marriage in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 10, verse 6. He says…
"But from the beginning of creation, God created them male and female."
Men do not belong in women’s sports. They have a clear physical advantage over women, which is why they are gaining more success in these competitions. This situation is completely unfair to women who must compete against biological males who identify as female. From the beginning, as described in the creation of Adam and Eve, it has been established that there are only two genders. Christ’s teachings on marriage also reflect this understanding. It is a fact that there are only two genders: male and female.
