Netflix’s Love is Blind Concept: Will this hurt our younger generation??
Reality dating shows have really taken over mainstream culture over the last few years. Even if you’re not a fan, you probably know some of the big names like The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and 90 Day Fiancé just by reputation. Lately, though, everyone’s been buzzing about this Netflix series called Love is Blind. It’s been running for 8 seasons now, and the whole idea is that singles date and even get engaged without ever seeing each other. They just hang out in these "pods" where they can only hear each other, trying to figure out if love can really be blind and if physical attraction even matters for a solid relationship. The couples only meet face-to-face after getting engaged, then they move in together to see if they’re ready to tie the knot. Recently, a clip from the show went viral:
If you're not caught up on this drama, Sarah Carton is set to marry Ben Mezzenga but ends up leaving him at the altar because of his views on the BLM movement, sexual identity, and the COVID-19 vaccine. It raises a question: Are reality dating shows bad for our younger generation? Personally, I think so. Kids might watch these shows and think this is how you find the right person instead of the old-school way of actually talking to someone and making a real connection. It seems like society is pushing these kinds of messed-up behaviors on the youth today.
In the 18th chapter of Proverbs from the Old Testament, King Solomon talks about how vital it is to understand wisdom and the trouble that can come from wickedness. When he gets to relationships, he mentions in verse 22:
“He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor from the Lord.”
Proverbs has some good and bad things to say about wives. It’s better to be alone than to live with a wife who always fights, but a wise wife is like a blessing from God—she brings honor to her husband. This teaches us not to rush into decisions and to be patient, trusting that if it’s meant to happen, the Lord will provide.
