CFP First Round Results:

So the first round of the college football playoffs ended this past weekend and I was 4-0 on my picks and here are my thoughts about the games outcomes:

  • #10 Indiana Hoosiers vs. #7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish: So I predicted an Irish victory and I was right! ND defeated the Hoosiers 27-17 and now the Fighting Irish will take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the quarterfinals. Notre Dame pretty much dominated the game especially in the second quarter putting up 10 points but Indiana was in business in the fourth quarter scoring 2 touchdowns but ultimately couldn’t get close the game.
  • #11 SMU Mustangs vs. #6 Penn State Nittany Lions: The Nittany Lions went ahead from the start with 2 pick 6’s and ended the first half with 28 points. I knew that the Lions’ defense was going to be a problem for the Mustangs because of the lack of competition they had this season and after the dominant loss SMU had social media reacted with many saying what would’ve happened if Alabama had been in their position. Now Penn State will advance to the quarterfinals to take on Boise State.
  • #12 Clemson Tigers vs. #5 Texas Longhorns: This game was going to be interesting and close and it didn’t disappoint. It was a back and forth battle between 2 quarterbacks who faced each other back in high school but ultimately Quinn Ewers and the Longhorns defense took home the win and will face Arizona State in the next round. Texas’ offense and defense came together in the second half and were a lot to handle for Clemson to come back.
  • #9 Tennessee Volunteers vs. #8 Ohio State Buckeyes: Before this game started I thought it was going to be a lot closer than anticipated but it turned out to be a slugging on the side of the Buckeyes. Their offense was dominant and Tennessee’s team couldn’t come together to overcome the pressure of the Buckeyes offense/defense and the weather conditions were a factor as I mentioned before. Now the Buckeyes will have a rematch with the #1 team in the nation next round against the Oregon Ducks which will most certainly be the game of the year.

Updated Bracket after the first round of games.
