Heisman Trophy winner Announced: The People’s Choice or the Media’s??

Last night, the winner of the 2024 Heisman Trophy, which is awarded to the best player in college football, was announced, and it went to Travis Hunter from Colorado. What makes Hunter special is that he plays two positions: cornerback and wide receiver. This season, he had an impressive performance, gaining over 1,000 receiving yards and catching 92 passes. On defense, he also stood out with 31 total tackles and four interceptions. Hunter was one of four finalists for the award, competing against Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel, Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty, and Miami QB Cam Ward. Personally, I felt that Jeanty deserved the trophy because he had an exceptional season and was a key player for his team. Although Hunter’s exciting story and media attention made him a strong contender, I believe the award should go to the player who performed the best overall, and in my opinion, that’s Jeanty. Colorado has another talented player named Shadur Sanders, who is actually the son of their head coach, Deion Sanders. I think he is an even bigger threat on offense than Hunter. However, Jeanty’s role at Boise State is crucial, and the team would really struggle without him. It’s interesting to note that the media tends to focus more on Hunter, likely due to his popularity and his coach's fame. Hunter and the #23 ranked Colorado Buffaloes are scheduled to play against the #17 BYU Cougars in the Valero Alamo Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on December 28. This game will be an opportunity for Hunter to showcase why he was chosen as the Heisman winner.
