How do you Share the Story God Has Given You?
Introduction: It’s Not solely Your Story—It’s God’s
When someone asks, “What’s your testimony?” they’re not just asking for a story. They’re asking how God has moved in your life—what He’s done, what He’s brought you through, and how He’s still working today. You see, sharing your testimony is about highlighting the actions that God has taken in your life. It’s not about putting yourself on a platform. It’s about lifting Him up and pointing others to the One who saved you, sustained you, and is still shaping you.
Three Testimonies God Has Given Me
For me, there are three defining testimonies that God has written into my life:
Age 8: I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. That moment changed the course of my eternity.
Age 16: My father passed away in 2012 during my sophomore year of high school. That loss tested my faith—but God was faithful through my grief.
Age 18: I became a quadriplegic my senior year of high school. In the most difficult chapter of my life, God gave me purpose I never imagined.
Each of these testimonies shaped my faith. One of them—or maybe all of them—might speak to someone else. And that’s the beauty of sharing: God uses different stories to reach different people.
Biblical Foundations for Sharing Your Testimony
The Bible doesn’t just encourage us to share our story—it commands and equips us to do it:
Mark 5:19–20: “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you.” This reminds us that sharing our testimony is declaring God’s mercy and goodness.
Acts 1:8: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses… to the remotest part of the earth.” The Holy Spirit empowers us to be witnesses—no matter where we are.
Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…” We share boldly because we believe in the transforming power of the gospel.
Whose Story Is It, Really?
Before I published my book The Wheelchair Pulpit, I used to think I was sharing my testimony. But through the process of writing and releasing it, God taught me something life-changing: “It’s not my story but it”s God’s testimony and I’m simply the messenger. Now when someone asks me to share my testimony, I say: “God has given me this testimony—it’s His story, and I’m simply speaking it through my mouth.” That mindset shift changes everything. It removes pride. It removes fear. And it places the glory right where it belongs—with God.
A Word of Encouragement for You
If you’re wondering where to start—start at the most important place:
When did you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? That’s the foundation of your testimony. From there, you can build on what He’s done in your life—through every trial, every victory, and every season of growth.
Your story may not look like mine.
Mine may not look like yours.
But they all point to the same Savior.
Final Challenge: Share What God Has Done
Whether it’s on a stage, over coffee, or through a blog like this—don’t miss the opportunity to glorify God by sharing His story in your life. Think about these reminders:
Your voice matters.
Your journey matters.
And most of all, your Savior matters.
Let the world know what He’s done.
