National Day of Prayer 2025: We need this day more than ever!
Today is the National Day of Prayer, a day when people of all faiths across the United States unite in prayer for our nation and everything going on within it. As we reflect on this day, I want to share why it’s especially important for us as believers to pray in light of the current events shaping our world. But first, let’s understand a bit more about this day and its significance.
What Is the National Day of Prayer?
When It’s Observed:
Annually on the first Thursday in May In 2025, it falls on May 1
Origins and Legal Basis:
Established in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman In 1988, President Ronald Reagan designated the first Thursday in May as the official date The President of the United States is required by law to issue a proclamation each year encouraging Americans to pray
Historical Background:
The idea of national prayer goes back to the Continental Congress in 1775 Observed by past presidents like John Adams and Abraham Lincoln The modern tradition gained momentum during the Korean War, inspired by voices like Billy Graham
How Americans Observe It:
Prayer and meditation across various settings Gatherings at churches, courthouses, synagogues, mosques, and temples Interfaith and community events Individual prayer at home or in public
Legal and Cultural Context:
The day is inclusive of all faiths, though it has Christian roots Court rulings have upheld its constitutionality The U.S. has proclaimed over 140 national days of prayer, fasting, or thanksgiving throughout its history
…are being celebrated in our society, but they contradict the biblical standard. As followers of Christ, we must pray that the narrative shifts from what is “culturally acceptable” to what is biblically acceptable.
Why I Pray Today:
There’s a spiritual battle happening in our nation—within our leadership, school systems, and among everyday Americans. Much of what is being labeled as “culturally acceptable” is in direct conflict with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Issues like:
Transgender ideology Racism Homosexuality And many others
“I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it.” – Ecclesiastes 3:14
“If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.” – Revelation 22:18
My Prayer Challenge to You:
Let’s not let this day pass without lifting up heartfelt prayers to God. I challenge you to pray boldly and intentionally:
Pray for Our Nation Pray for Your Family Pray for Our Culture Pray for Our Schools Elementary Middle High School Colleges Homeschool Families Pray for Your City and Community Pray for Your Church Pray for a Jesus Revival in America
Closing Word:
We need Christ Jesus now more than ever. I pray that His presence is seen, felt, and heard across this nation. May our hearts turn back to Him, and may this National Day of Prayer stir revival in our land.
Let’s pray. Let’s believe. And let’s live boldly for Jesus.
