Both teams are coming into this game as the #1 seed in their respective divisions during the NCAA Tournament.

Florida Gators’ Road to the Championship:

  • The Gators have really surprised everyone this season. They were expected to finish sixth in the SEC, but under head coach Todd Golden, they've gone above and beyond. Their 2024–25 regular season, finished with a 27–4 overall record and a 14–4 mark in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play, securing second place in the conference.
  • In Non-Conference play The Gators began the season with a perfect 13–0 record in non-conference games, showcasing their dominance and earning a No. 6 ranking in the Associated Press (AP) Poll, their highest in seven years. In Conference Play, Florida achieved notable victories, including a commanding 73–43 win over Tennessee on January 7, 2025. However, they faced challenges, such as a narrow 83–82 loss to Missouri on January 14 and a 64–44 defeat at Tennessee on February 1.
  • Offensively, the Gators averaged 84.3 points per game, ranking ninth nationally, while defensively allowing 68.1 points per game.  Senior guard Walter Clayton Jr. led the team with 18.5 points per game and 4.1 assists per game.
  • Their journey to the championship included an epic comeback against Auburn in the Final Four. They were down by eight points at halftime, but their defense stepped up big time, helping them snag a 79-73 win and earning their first shot at the national championship since 2007. Walter Clayton Jr. has been killing it, averaging 24.6 points per game in the tournament and hitting an awesome 48.7% from beyond the arc.

  • The Cougars faced a challenging start, holding a 4–3 record early in the season, including losses to top-ranked teams such as Alabama, Auburn, and San Diego State. However, the team demonstrated resilience, embarking on a remarkable 26–1 run to close the regular season.
