My thoughts on Texas Representative mocking same state Governor about his disability!
Jasmine Crockett is an American lawyer and politician who has been serving as a U.S. Representative for Texas's 30th congressional district since January 2023. She's part of the Democratic Party and has recently gained attention for her strong opinions on issues like immigration and race, which are often at odds with Republican views. Right now, she's facing some backlash for her comments about the Texas Governor, Greg Abbott. For those who might not be familiar, Governor Abbott had a serious accident while out for a run when a huge oak tree fell on him, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. So, why are Crockett and Abbott grabbing headlines together lately?
Yesterday afternoon while at a Human Rights gathering, Crockett got up to the podium and uttered these comments:
"Y’all know we got Gov. Hot Wheels down there. Come on now. And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot mess, honey."
Now that I’ve broken down what happened, I want to share my thoughts on her comments and be super clear about it…. I’m not offended by what she said. Sure, her words might be really offensive to others who aren’t in a wheelchair like me, but I actually thought it was kinda funny at one point! The whole “Governor Hot Wheels” thing is pretty amusing, and I probably would’ve cracked up if someone called me that. And, of course, people are going to bring up that time when Trump mocked the disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski back in 2015. But what made me very upset with Crockett was her attitude and the sheer smugness that she displayed and the difference in my opinion on what she said and what Trump did in 2015 is that I AM IN A WHEELCHAIR! But at the end of the day if we’re gonna call one person out for making comments about disabilities, then we should definitely point out other instances of this kind of behavior too. But honestly, it’s pretty sad that we’re even having this conversation about high-ranking government officials—they really should be held to a higher standard.
