Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty: Love them or Hate them??

As the NFL prepares for the NFC/AFC Championship games on Sunday with the Washington Commanders going to Philadelphia to play the Eagles and the Buffalo Bills traveling to Kansas City to play against the Chiefs the question on everyone’s mind right now is if Patrick Mahomes lead team will accomplish the league’s first 3-peat. And if that happens then the next question will be whether they’re the most loved team or the most hated team.

If you take a nationwide survey on if the majority of Americans are rooting for them to win the 3-peat or lose in the conference championship game then my guess would be that most people would want them to lose. Not because they’re a bad team but the fact that they’ve won games by the skin of their teeth and the help from the officials.

If you watched the game between the Texans and the Chiefs in the divisional round you can make the case that the officials were clearly on the side of the Chiefs. The Texans were the clear best team on the field and the stats show it. The Texans had more 1st downs with 18 compared to the Chiefs 14, Houston had more total yards than Kansas City with 336 yards to KC’s 212, Houston QB C.J. Stroud had more passing yards than Patrick Mahomes, and the Texans had more rushing yards with 149 compared with KC’s 50.

The ultimate reason why many people who watched the game were convinced that the officials were on the side of the Chiefs was because of many questionable calls that led to penalties against the Texans and an obvious flop by Mahomes. And the last reason and I speak for all who aren’t fans of the Chiefs is the continuous coverage of one pop culture icon Taylor Swift.

If you’ve been living under a rock and not knowing the history behind the Chiefs and Swift it’s the relationship that she has with star tight end Travis Kelce. The media coverage especially during the game has been criticized by the fans as being over the top and unnecessary and I’m part of that group. I believe the media coverage is strictly for the Chiefs and the "Swifty" fan base.

The overall majority of Americans are hoping for a Washington vs. Buffalo Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday February 9th because the matchup between the Eagles and Chiefs would be repetitive as they played against each other in 2023 when the Chiefs defeated Philly 38-35.

My Predictions for the Sunday Conference Championship Games:

AFC: #2 Buffalo Bills vs. #1 Kansas City Chiefs

  • Pick: Bills 24-21

NFC: #6 Washington Commanders vs. #2 Philadelphia Eagles

  • Pick: Commanders 31-28
